Objective: Despite chemical treatment, the loss of thermal efficiency resulting from scale formation towards the end of the annual maintenance cycle required once-through city water to keep the system on line. This practice of using city water straight-to-the-drain would, some years, last for several months. In addition, the system needed to be shut down once a year for scale removal and a portable air compressor rented (at a cost of $7,000). Results: Heat Exchanger now scale free, chemicals eliminated, annual air compressor rental no longer required, better Delta-P and Delta-T on system, improved energy efficiency, less maintenance, no down time, and major water conservation.
