Historically, chemicals have been used for water treatment to inhibit scale, colonization of bacteria, and corrosion. In this balancing act, however, polymers that solve one problem worsen another. Lower pH needed to inhibit scale encourages biological growth and corrosion. |
Chemical dispersants serve as nutrients for growth, and must be offset with biocides. Water use and discharge also increase with each additional chemical additive and both scale and biological fouling decrease energy efficiency significantly.

Electrostatic technology is the application of physics to accomplish water treatment. All water-borne particles have an existing electrostatic charge, which is generally too weak to prevent them from bonding with one another and attaching to surfaces to form scale and biofilm. |
Electrostatic rods are mounted directly into the water stream and fed with a high-voltage, low current static charge. As water flows through the static field, the surface charge of the particles is strengthened, causing them to repel one another as well as pipe surfaces, and remain in suspension. Particles do not bond and accumulate mass that would cause them to drop out of solution.
